Frustrated with the Waiting List in Wales (Rhondda Cynon Taf LHB) , I searched for clinic abroad that would be able to perform my Total Knee Replacement (TKR) within a timely time period for a more reasonable price that the Spite and Nuffield Clinic in Cardiff.
I found the Nordorthopeadic Clinic from Kaunas, Lithuania advertising on Social Media.
A very sceptical Mrs B. tried to uncover some bad news story about the clinic, no no avail.
I applied to join the Nord Clinic Patient Facebook group, a social media group where patients who have attended Nord Clinic share their experiences of travelling t to, and staying in Kaunas for surgery.
I attended an event in Cardiff during November 2024, where the lead surgeon, Professor Tarasevicius explains the process, and held a open Q&A session.
I sent my XRays to Nord Clinic (available from my local trust via a Subject Access Request) , booked surgery for 5th December 2024, and flights from Stanstead (return to Bristol) for 3rd December.
I stayed at a cheap hotel for two nights prior to my surgery (you attend the clinic as an outpatient for your pre-op tests), and a four star city centre hotel post-op.
Nord Clinic arrange everything from the minute you arrive at the airport to departure.
Transport to and from the hotel / clinic pre-op, transfer t re-hab from your hotel / apartment post op.
The whole process runs like a well-oiled machine.
Lithuania is a member of the EU and a member of NATO (ease of mind), excellent English is spoken by all staff, and restaurant / cafe staff, basically everyone under the age of 40 has been taught English in school.
The total cost for my whole trip, including surgery was Circa £7,500, today (19th December) my local surgery removed my dressing and were all amazed I am walking without the use of crutches, the stitches are self-disolving so no need for them to be removed.
I would like to thank the staff at Nord Clinic for all of their efforts.
